About the Role

Brief description
We are looking for a self-motivated, experienced and enthusiastic Media Relations Manager to help build the profile of the Group across the media and other external audiences.  The role will involve drafting content for utilisation across a number of channels, such as press releases, blogs and web content, as well as developing proactive media campaigns and building relationship with key journalists to help deliver compelling content. 
Purpose of the role.

To act as an external communications resource for Paragon Bank, developing communications strategies, working within the Media Relations team. Responsible for communication to a variety of audiences and the protection of the Group’s reputation.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Develop communication strategies which assist the Group in the achievement of its operational plans, including engagement with national, trade and regional media
  • Ensure a consistent and coordinated approach in all media, political messaging and communications strategies
  • Working closely with Head of Media Relations, the Heads of the Group’s individual businesses and the Group’s Marketing team to create PR plans and campaigns, ensuring all messaging is consistent (including working with Marketing on customer communications and brand websites)
  • Act as an account manager for various Group brands, developing communications and managing relationships with the business – this will include the creation of media relations programmes (press releases, blogs, columns, reports, media interviews)
  • Ensure senior management and executive are kept up to date with industry-related news and information, this will include news and social media monitoring, reviewing and evaluating reports and research
  • Part of the press office function for the Group including: acting as a media spokesperson  responding to press enquiries, drafting positioning statements, arranging media interviews, attending journalist briefings and overall reputation management and protection
  • Ensure that all communications are aligned with the Group’s brand values and behaviours are legal and compliant, decent and truthful and incorporates the principles of Treating Customers Fairly
    Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with ER policies, processes and procedures

About You

Skills
  • Experience in media relations and working with journalists
  • Knowledge of financial services would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of social media communication strategies
  • Educated to degree level
  • Interpersonal skills to deal with senior management, employees, media, customers etc
  • Drive to make an immediate impact
  • Naturally enthusiastic and outgoing in approach
  • Willingness to learn
  • Experience in people/account management
  • Passionate about PR and communications
  • Self-starter – ability to work on own initiative
